No more

Due to the resent sale of the property on Decatur street, this name is going bye bye. I already have a new name and will be opening a new blog soon. The new name will be, Dead Desert Brewing. Keep an eye out for title changes soon.

Are you ready?

It is time to announce officially the FIRST ANNUAL OKTOBERWEEN!!  This is to showcase 2 new beers to the Decatur Street Brewing Company.  Well really one new beer and a redesign of another. The Pumpkin Ale, which first appeared last year, to short supply, high demand and rave reviews is back. Then we will see the reveal of the first Marzen brew. This is the traditional Oktoberfest beer.

The Headless Pumpkin Ale is back and bigger than ever. I don't know how he finds the place with no head. It is different than last years. It will have some more maple notes and spicier fall notes. I will be open to reviews and will have a comment card to fill out so I can work on the flavor profile. If it isn't liked as much as last years, I promise to return to my original recipe that was so well received for next years.

The new child this year is a Marzen. It is not a true Marzen as we don't live in temperatures to lager during our summer months, but the flavors should be close with caramel and clean crisp after tastes. It is therefore an ale, and while it has been done for a few weeks now, I still don't have a name for it. Thinking along the lines of Oktoberfest Ale, yeah I know very original.

There will also be a friendly poker tournament that will be going on for entertainment. Generally, there is a $20 buy in for this, but if there is enough interest is in higher or lower dollar tables we can accommodate what ever everyone wants to do. Also, Rock Band will be made available so bring your favorite instrument for PS3. I do have Rock Band 3 so can take keyboard as well as the normal instruments. Details on food and extra drinks are to come, but for the most part start thinking in potluck mood. You don't have to like beer to enjoy the evening, many that don't like the BMC(Bud, Miller and Coors) actually enjoy these "specialty" beers. Plus, we will have all these other things to drink, eat and play.

Invites are soon to go out to those friends that have expressed interest. I will be using this blog to keep track of the guest list, just asking that you leave your first name and how many will be attending in the comments of the Invite Post soon to come. Also, feel free to bring and invite friends that may like poker, beer and just a good time.

Just let me know when:

Summer Closing

I have decided that I will be shutting down shop from May to August every year. Its just to darn hot here during that time to get a good fermentation. With that being said, August is almost over. Let the 2011-2012 brewing season start.

Hefe news:
So i never did get to brew the hefe like I wanted to before summer hit to hard. I still have the ingredients to brew it and it may just be the first one I brew starting this season. I think it will still be a good drink for the next few months out here in the dessert.

Pumpkin Ale:
I feel the headless horseman is getting closer. Last year I didn't get a good start on this truly seasonal brew, and ended up disappointing a few party goers. This year I will be getting a good head start. I may end up starting this next weekend and then it will be ready for the spooky holiday that ends October.

The true beginning:
Racked the corner stone brew to the keg, not going to do bottles for the first run. The Marzen is almost ready to drink. However, can't drink it just yet, it's not Oktoberfest time yet. Those friends and family that enjoy a nice dark flavorful beer will be receiving an invite to the first ever Decatur St. Brewing tasting and poker party. It will be either the last weekend of September or the first weekend of October.

Keep your eyes peeled for news now that the warmer months are starting to come to a close.

Summer Aproaches

Summer is upon us and I am going to have to stop for a little while as the summer heat makes for bad fermenting temperature control. The Belgium brew is done and gone, well atleast the kegged amount. I do still have a case of the bottles left of that stuff. Got to sample the Oktoberfest this evening. Its about 2 months old and just moved to a secondary fermenter to clear it up even more. Its got nice front end notes and a sweet smooth after taste. This will surely be a great beer to open the next beer season.

The last beer I am going to work on this weekend will be the summer beer. Looking to do my first Hefe. Seems simple enough. Look for more to come.

Been A While

No comments and no followers can do that to someone that has a passion to share.  Have two projects have been working on. Did my first attempt at completing a fruit wine. Its been bottled and sitting in the closet for 2 months now. Should sit for many more months, but not sure how long it can last. Or how long I can last...

Second project is another Belgian Ale, this time amber. Should have already bottled or kegged it, but its still in primary fermenter. Thinking that this weekend I will move it to the secondary and let it sit a few more weeks then either bottle all of it or keg it.

All the Pumpkin and any reserves are gone. Sorry if you didn't get a sample of any of the fine brews that have come out of 2010.  2011 is here now and working on changing things up alittle. Two weeks from now will give me new ideas and an amazing experience. The largest beer festival this town has to offer is coming again. Last time I got way to drunk to remember how any of the beers tasted, this year will be different. Having a few friends join me so I can watch them get drunk while I just truly sample and not consume. Can not make the same mistake twice. Anyways to those of you who to do read this little blog and are a friend and would like to join, call, email, or txt me that you would like to join us.
